Wellington Anniversary Weekend January 19th - 20th 2019

Six Monks in a Leaky Boat

Facilitator:
Ivan Towlson

Welcome to 13th-century England! You are monks in the service of the LORD. Praise the LORD! The LORD is your friend! After toiling away for years as Red sanctity novices, you have finally achieved the Orange habits of monks. But all is not rosy! Heretics, schismatic sects and Satanists are everywhere!

Especially, it seems, France. That benighted land is a nest of heterodoxy, apostasy and impiety. Fortunately, the LORD has revealed to your archbishop the source of the taint, and has commanded that you be sent to burn it out with fire and the holy word. Praise the LORD!

Just three small details of which the LORD was presumably unaware. One, you’re a secret heretic. Two, you’re a secret schismatic. Three, you’re a secret Satanist. And since your fellow monks are all fired up against heretical schismatic Satanists, if any of them find out, it’s the pyre for you… unless you can put them to the torch first.

So remember: stay alert! Trust nobody! And keep your kindling handy!

These Beasts Have Maiden Faces

Facilitator:
Ivan Towlson

Poseidon, the Earth-Shaker, is angry. Your return from the Trojan War to your homes in Greece has never been smooth, but rarely on your journey have you seen such storms as this. The fair Ismene, daughter of Poseidon’s servant King Alector, has been abducted by dark winged Celaeno, the harpy. Adding insult to injury, Celaeno has transformed Ismene into a foul harpy herself. The Earth-Shaker’s fury knows no bounds, and he commands you to free Ismene and bring her home, restored to her former beauty.

And when the gods command, you obey. Oh, the gods are vain and petty, and mortals are no more than pawns in their games. But their capricious whims are not your concern. Your strong arm and sharp blade will serve when they call – but your reward is glory. The glory of greatness in battle, in word, in spirit – glory that will echo down the ages in poem and song. That is why you sweat and bleed for the mighty gods.

But only one of you can go down in legend as the victor over the harpies. Who among you will be immortalised with their own star in the heavens? And whose grave will be forgotten along with their deeds? Enter the agon, and prove the glory of your name.

Burying the Hatchet

Facilitator:
Michael Foster

The London criminal underworld is ruled with an iron fist (wearing knuckle dusters) by Neil "Sharky" Baxter and all has been peaceful in his realm since he put an end to his arch-rival Vince "the Hatchet" Carver in a fiery conflagaration. But now someone is stirring up trouble and rumour on the street is that the Hatchet is back for revenge.
It's up to Sharky's top men; Don and his hand-picked gang of nutters Kev, Desmond, Lance and Weasel; to embark on a head-stomping, finger-crunching, face-searing orgy of violence to discover the truth and finally bury the Hatchet!

The Archmage's Crown

Facilitator:
IdiotSavant

For nearly a century the necromancers of the Ebon Tower have plotted the fall of Arlandia. For nearly a century they have schemed their evil schemes and planned their evil plans. For nearly a century, they have been ruled over by a succession of Archmages, each aided by the power of a mystical crown. The crown grants power, and bonds instantly with its wearer. Whenever an Archmage dies, whoever first bonds with the Archmage's crown becomes the new Archmage.

Now the Archmage is dead, and a new one must be chosen. Who shall be the next wearer of the Archmage's Crown?

A Pratchettesque comedy-fantasy by Donna Giltrap, first run at KapCon XI. People who have played "The Golden Pegasus" and "Graduation day" may find some setting elements familiar.

  • New domain name : kapcon.org.nz

KapCon now has a new domain name of it's very own : kapcon.org.nz.

Don't worry, all the old URLs ( kapcon.rpg.net.nz, kapcon.rpg.org.nz ) still work, and will continue to do so as long as I maintain those domains, so people don;t need to hare off and edit any links they may have on web sites, and all our old search stats will remain relevant.

It just means that there is now a slightly shorter URL to type and print on external forms. :)

Kapcon SIte Now Has Commercial Hosting

KapCon is no longer hosted on an ancient (10+ years old) IBM Net Vista sitting in my lounge. This hoary old beast is now permanently quiet, as is my lounge. You should find that performance of the site is significantly improved, along wth it's reliability.

This site, and the others that used to be hosted there, are now hosted on a Debian VPS provided by the very professional New Zealand-based Net24. I've always been impressed at the service provided by their sister company 1st Domains, who provide registration and mail forwarding for all the sites I manage, including this one, and so far Net24 have been just as impressive.

The process of transition was extremely smooth, and took less than day. ( I love apt-get! ) However, if you discover anything not working for you please let me know.

Now to look at upgrading to Drupal 7 and looking at some of those site enhancements some people have suggested.
