Chicago, 2047.

Charles Hartmann, CEO of Hartmann-Prince Multinational, is having a "get-together" to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Al Capone’s death.

At least, that’s one story. Everyone knows there’s got to be a real reason behind the event: maybe he’s planning to announce something that’ll finally end the technological stalemate with rival company Featherlight, or maybe he’s made a contract with the Chicago Police Department for military-grade cyberware. Rumours are everywhere.

But he won’t be the only one at that gathering, and his guests have announcements of their own. Strange, though, that his favoured researcher isn't on the door list...

LARP: The Script

Facilitator:
Claire Ahuriri

Written by Claire Ahuriri

A bunch of stereotypical teens meet in this place. Is it the school after hours? A cabin in the woods? Lover's Lane? No one is quite sure, but it sure is freaky out here. There's rumours of some kind of slasher going around... or was it a werewolf? Or was it pods from Mars? No one can quite figure it out. Maybe the script has the answers. But it's nowhere in sight. What the hell is that creepy voice that keeps giving you orders? Everything is starting to play out like a really bad horror movie. And what’s that over there? Is that… the script?

This LARP is played using Theatresports/Improvisation games to explore the story. (Knowledge of these is not required, and a briefing and warmup will take place)

Boats Against the Current

New York, in the throes of the roaring twenties. An age of defiance, rebellion, blazing forth into a bright future in a whirl of liquor and dancing.

Recently, an eccentric but much talked about millionaire socialite has died under very questionable circumstances. Speculation abounds in the streets, and splashed across the papers - who was this man, really? Where did he come from? Who killed him? And why?

This afternoon is his funeral, and you are not at it. In the shimmering heat of summer you and other glittering people, none of whom were the sort to have anything to do with the likes of him, while away the afternoon slowly with alcohol, music and something akin to gnawing guilt.

A mature theatreform larp for nine people, inspired by "The Great Gatsby"

Something in the Heir

When everything goes to hell, it doesn't matter who you know. It's what you know. What you remember.

What really matters is where you came from.

The Proga family came from old money, and they squandered it away. They hold the same grand party every year, but every time it gets a little less extravagant, a little less special. Rumour was, they'd spent it all on secret collaborations with the government. Not that they have anything to show for it, now.

This year, the only reason they're holding the party at all is the weight of tradition. You probably won your ticket from a radio station. It doesn't matter. Are you here for the party, though, or something more important?

Are you ready to learn where you're headed?

The Women's Institute of Hallows Hill is, in many ways, typical of its kind; it runs bake sales for good causes, organises volunteer groups, helps the local school with its Christmas pageant and is an essential part of the local community. This particular local community, however, is made up (almost entirely) of second tier supervillans and their families; the sort that, while they do well, can't quite scrape together enough for that volcano base. But Hallows Hill is a lovely area, with a good school for the kids and excellent local greengrocers. It's a little village that understands completely when you accidentally open a portal to hell in your back garden, or the deathbots go on a rampage down the local high street. The WI has encouraged and enabled a strong sense of community spirit among the villainous denizens.

But the Women's Institute is currently being torn apart by controversy. For the first time in its history, men are pressing to join. The community is divided. Angry letters have been written to the local newspaper. Sharp words have been exchanged in the fishmonger's. Letterboxes have been knocked over. Skeleton armies are being readied. Death Rays are being powered up.

To prevent Hallows Hill from becoming a smoking crater in the ground, the MP for Hallows Hill has arranged a meeting to work out a solution...with as few casualties as possible.

It's Midsommer Murders meets Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog meets Desperate Housewives.

Costuming: Light to medium, depending on the character.

Mr O'Strate, the teacher behind last year's eerily realistic production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', now has a group of students who've somehow managed to avoid hearing the horror stories about the last play he helmed. Now, with a dog-eared copy of 'Twelfth Night' under his arm, he's brought you all here for another rehearsal. Things are feeling weird, though. You've got the urge to find true love, cast old fears aside, and really get invested in your characters. Will Sir Toby sober up before dress rehearsal? Will Feste learn to play the ukulele? And will anybody be able to tell the twin brothers apart?
It's all happening tonight. And remember: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. Emphasis on the word 'thrust'.

Russ Kale wrote and ran 'Quick Bright Things' at Victoria University and Chimera in 2012. William Shakespeare wrote 'Macbeth' and accidentally spawned a number of teen comedies. Player advisory: this game will involve coarse language, sexual content and poor life choices.

LARP: Mansfield with Monsters

Wellington 1919. In the wake of the Great War the dread Haitian 'Flu arrived in New Zealand. Tens of thousands died, if not from the 'flu itself then from the depravations of those who succumbed to the disease only to rise from the grave with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.

The Government responded by enacting curfews and rationing measures. The army set up safe zones guarded by machine guns and barbed wire where the living might continue with their business. Those who wander outside the safe zones risk being torn apart by the living dead.

Still one shouldn't let the fact that the dead are returning to life in contravention of the very laws of nature get one down. Many of the city's well-to-do are doing their best to carry on as if there wasn't an apocalypse on their doorstep. In this spirit of brave defiance Dr and Mrs Harry Young are holding a dinner party for a number of their closest friends.

Mansfield with Monsters has been written to celebrate the release of the book of the same name by Matthew and Debbie Cowens (http://www.steampress.co.nz/monsters.html). You don't have to have read the book to enjoy the LARP, but you might want to check it out anyway.

1889. Three decades ago, London was stolen by bats. Dragged deep into the earth by the Echo Bazaar. The sun is gone. All we have is the gas-light of Mr Fires. But life goes on, lit by glowing fungus and candlelight. There are still people in Fallen London. And there are still temptations...

Did you hear the one?

In 1910 the Turnbull family were brutally murdered in their home. The reason why was never discovered, but over the years a number of brutal and increasingly outlandish tales have been told. A tradition has also started amongst students and lovers of ghost stories to stay the night in the abandoned “Turnbull House” on the night that the murders happened, Oct 16th.

This is the 100 year anniversary and the group who spend the night here this year will get more than they bargained for.

Facilitator:

Written by Ivan (Vanya) Essin, Gareth Sandford, Robert Birtles-Crute, Porl Bowdler

Three years ago, a wealthy, upper class recluse was found dead. Albert Tenneford Trismegistus died of natural causes, a heart attack, could happen to anyone, especially at such an old age. But you don't believe that for a second now do you? Guilt, you either have it or you don't, and I'm not talking about the type of guilt that you feel, I'm talking about the guilt that binds one person to another. The type that no therapy can ever free you from.

So as you take your final breath in this world, answer me these questions. Are you afraid? Is your soul clean? Surely it might scare you just a little that it might matter?

Escaping responsibility is easy in our world. Now open your eyes, see how easy it is in the next.

Bad Dreams is a supernatural horror larp, with emphasis on heavy roleplaying above all else. Please be advised the game contains highly mature and offensive content.
